7 Tips To Make AdSense Ad Formats Work

"How do I know which AdSense ad formats can bring me the best results?" This is one of the most common questions asked by AdSense publishers. Google offers a wide variety of AdSense ad formats to allow publishers the flexibility to place ads that meet the needs of their websites. No one can really predict which AdSense ad formats can make you the most profits. You need to frequently experiment with different AdSense ad formats on your site and find out what works the best for you.

However, according to my experience there are several things you can do to improve your click-through-rates (CTR) with your AdSense ads:

1). Make the color of your ads to match your web page background. Don't use frames, because frames around your AdSense ads are easily spotted as ads and ignored.
2). Incorporate the AdSense code into your pages so that the ads are naturally blended into your web pages. You don't want the ads to contrast out from the pages.
3). Make sure the density of keywords in the content of your web page that will trigger more relevant AdSense ads on the page. The more
relevant the ads are, the higher CTR you will get.
4). Use Google's new 4 and 5 link ad units because they seem to have a much higher CTR than regular ad format styles.
5). Although Google doesn't allow image or graphic around the ads you can place arrows or images above or below your ads to draw attention to them. Just remember don't get those graphics too close to the ads as if they are part of the ads.
6). Limit your AdSense ads to 3 units plus one link unit and carefully place them on your page so they can blend into your site and not
distract from your content.
7). Avoid horizontal banner style ads. I recommend display ads with 300 x 250 medium rectangles because it is proved to be the most productive AdSense ad format. Smaller, longer, or wider AdSense ad formats are much easier to view as ads and be ignored by the website visitors.
No matter what Adsense ad formats you choose, constant testing to see which ad formats work and which ones don't are the key to be successful with AdSense

Preview Tool on IE

Google provides a preview tool for your browser however it currently only works in IE6.

Installing Google AdSense Preview Tool

  1. Download AdSense Preview Tool (Right-Click, save target as)
  2. Double click, and click Yes to continue
  3. Close all IE and restart
  4. Remove .reg file.

Google has just introduced another CPA (Cost Per Action) ad - Google Apps. Google Apps gives you $5 for every successful referral you’ve made.

Login to your Adsense account
Click Adsense Setup tab, choose, Referrals
Select Google Apps from the list
Copy-paste codes to your website.
How I Get Paid From Google Apps?
You will be credited $5 when someone clicks the referral ad from your site and signs up for Google Apps with a domain that has not already been signed up for the service. That person’s domain must then have one or more Google Apps email accounts in use for four consecutive weeks. It’s that simple.

  25. Business Opportunities Blog - I am adding this because I am a subscriber to their site and I see ideas everyday that could result in making money. A lot of the ideas pertain to online businesses. If you are an aspiring entrepreneur, it's a good reference.

  29. Chitika - Their eMiniMalls service has shown great results for many Bloggers and site owners. You choose a keyword and they show relevant products on your site using a pretty unique interface.

  31. Clickbank - Quickly becoming my favorite affiliate program. They have thousands of things for you to advertise on your site.

  33. ClicknWork - Get paid $5-$150 per hour for basically doing freelance work on a per-assignment basis. You have to pass a pretty tough test to get in.

  35. Clicksor - These are the guys that generate contextual ads on sites that show up when you hover over a double-underlined word.

  37. Commission Junction - If you have a site, you can join Commission Junction. Once enrolled for free, you can choose companies whose ads are pertinent to your site. Companies have the ultimate say on working with you. There are easily over 1,000 companies to choose from here.

  39. CreamAid - For blogs only, advertisers provide you with a topic and you write about it on your site. To do this, you have to install a flash widget into your blog post. The more people you bring into the conversation through the widget, the more you get paid. It's difficult to explain.

  41. eefoof - Think of it as YouTube + Flickr + Music. You add original content and they pay you based on the visitors you attract.

  43. Ether - If you are an expert on something, Ether provides a way for people to pay you to talk about it in a one-on-one setting. If you want to charge $250/hr, that's fine. You have to do all the advertising so you should have a blog or site already established.

  45. eBay- Come on, you know what this is. Gather your junk and sell it!

  47. eBay Stores - If you have a real store and want to sell your stuff online, this is a decent option to get you started.

  49. ELance - Name gives it away. Programmers, Codes, Web Designers, Writers, Editors, can look for freelance opportunities.

  51. Feedvertising - This is an arm of Text Link Ads and is currently only good for Wordpress 2.0 Users. This does me no good currently, but as you can guess, they place ads in your feed(s).

  53. Feedburner / Google - Not only are they the best place to house your feeds, they will also add ads to your feed and website. You get paid per impression and if you implement Google Adsense to your feed, you are paid per click.

  55. Google Adsense - Come on, you don't need an explanation; these ads are all over the place. Google displays relevant ads based on your site's content

  57. Google Adwords - Create simple text ads and choose keywords that determine when they are displayed. This is where the Adsense Content comes from. You do not need a site for this.

  59. H3.com - Get paid to fill jobs. Commissions range from $50-$5,000. It all depends on how tough the job is to fill and how desperate the hiring company is. This is another one that's tough to explain.

  61. Indeed.com - Add their job board to your site. They then post jobs based on the geographic location of visitors and the position types you pre-select. I tried it and I they continually report that I sent 0 visitors and I know that's not right. Nevertheless, I may have an isolated problem so they make the list.

  63. InnerSell - If you have a customer that wants to buy something you cannot sell, you can sell the lead here.

  65. Jellyfish - This is a shopping site that pays you a percentage of the purchases made by people you refer. They are not part of a wider affiliate program so you do it direct.

  67. Jigsaw - It's a pretty flaky model but if you have a Rolodex full of good contacts, you can sell them here. I can't make sense of it but it looks like you get $0.10 per profile.

  69. KarmaOne - They are basically a recruiting website. If you fill one of their jobs by finding a good candidate, you'll get paid anywhere from $50-$12,000. It all depends on how desperate the hiring company is.

  71. LinkShare.com - If you have a site, you can join Linkshare. Once enrolled for free, you can choose companies whose ads are pertinent to your site. Companies have the ultimate say on working with you. Like Commission Junction, there are a ton of companies waiting to evaluate your site.

  73. Microsoft Adcenter - Bid on keywords and Microsoft places your created ads then they are searched for. This is similar to Google Adwords. You do not need a site for this.

  75. Overstock.com - Sell your stuff on Overstock.com

  77. Pageflakes - This is a company that developed a user-defined Ajax homepage to show feeds, flickr photos, and a ton of other things. Think of it as a replacement for your Google Homepage. Anyway - they'll pay you $1 per referral that you send over. They are not part of a wider affiliate program so you do it direct. This one is pretty simple.

  79. Pay Per Post - I don't agree with this model entirely but they have advertisers that will pay you to write about their products on your blog.

  81. Pheedo - If you have an RSS feed, run it through Pheedo. Like Feedburner, they can include ads into your feed and if you really become large, advertisers will pay a premium for you to show their ads.

  83. Shareasale.com - I've never really worked with them but I do have an account. They are similar to Commission Junction and Linkshare however they seem to have lower tiered companies with advertising offers.

  85. Shoemoney - This is a blog that can teach you a ton on making money online. I've spent hours reading his old stuff.

  87. Software Judge - They will pay you up to $50 to review software.

  89. Text Link Ads - I have never made a dime here but I know people that have. You can earn by sending advertisers to them or by selling spots on your site. You must have a real site or blog to do this - nothing on a shared domain (i.e. /blogspot).

  91. Vibrant Media - Don't bother unless your site has 500,000 page views of text based content a month. If you have that readership, these are the guys that display bubble box ads to underlined words on your site.

  93. West Work At Home Agent - Not entirely online but this is worth a mention because it's won awards and is very legitimate. If you are an at-home Mom or free-lancer without work, you should check this out.

  95. Yahoo! Merchant Solutions - This is a pretty simple and cheap way to create an online store.

Easier Ways To Withdraw Your Money From Paypal And Google AdSense

Verdict

My AdSense check is sent to my Malaysia home address. It took 3 weeks for the check to arrive and another 4 weeks for CIMB bank to clear the check. Withdrawing through Western Union is definetely a turbo approach to convert your AdSense check into cash. However the troublesome part is that you have to get these following information prepared before you can receive your money:

  • Western Union MTCN (Money Transfer Control Number)
  • IC/Passport
  • Amount to received
  • Sender’s Address (Google)

Withdraw Paypal With Credit/Debit Card

I’ve written how you can withdraw with VMI but I guess that not really required now if you have a credit card or debit card with Visa, Visa Electron or Mastercard. There is an option in Paypal that allows you to transfer your money from Paypal to credit/debit card. Daily withdrawal limit is $500, each transaction will be charge a fee of $5. Read here for more information.

Verdict

Malaysian local banks have yet to be recognized or added into Paypal for direct withdrawal. My guess is probably due to the fraudlence caese years back. Now that if you have a credit/debit card, you should not have a problem transfering your money from Paypal. I’m personally not having problem withdrawing from Paypal as I have a Singpore bank account directly attached to my Paypal account.

How To Find Out Feedburner Subscribers Figures (When They Don’t Tell)

Some bloggers keep their Feedburner feed counter (chiklet) hidden until they reach a comfortable figure. The reason - simply because the small figures discourage people from subscribing to the blog. Well, it’s not all true but it does affects a little. So if you are dead curious about one blog’s feed count but the owner aint putting a Feedburner chiklet, there’s still way to find out. Here’s how.

Copy paste the following to your browser, replace ‘feedID‘ with any blog’s feedburner ID, hit enter and you’ll be return a the amount of readership in a chiklet. It’s really that simple to find out.

How To Hide Feedburner Feed Count

The reason why the above URL is able to trace your feed count is because you left the option open. To close and prevent people from knowing how many subscribers you currently have, go to Publicize tab, click FeedCount and disable this service.
